What to Wear to a University Tour in the Winter vs. the Summer?

‘Tis the season of college tours! With college tours, come long days walking through campus, looking at dorms, and listening to what seems like the longest speeches you’ve ever listened to. Choosing the most appropriate attire can help give you confidence in interviews and positively influence your chances of being accepted into the college of your choice.

Since I am a senior in high school, I have started touring many colleges. I have had tours in the dead heat of summer as well as some in the middle of winter. It is important to be prepared for any weather. I have walked around campuses in sunshine, rain, and even during a snow storm! Picking out the appropriate outfit to wear is always a struggle for me. When going on university tours, you want to dress nicely and modestly because it is always important to make your best impression. However, dressing comfortably is also important because you will most likely be walking all over campus. Your attire should be stylishly trendy and comfortable, but it should also reflect your personal sense of style.

What to wear to a winter tour:

  • Jeans
  • Beanie/ earmuffs
  • Warm boots
  • Cute blouse
  • Thick jacket (or two)

What to wear to a summer tour:

  • Shorts
  • Cute blouse/ tank top
  • Converse/ sandals
  • Jewelry

Posted below are a few pictures that show what I have worn to college tours!

This was my outfit when I toured JMU. It was freezing cold and snowing!
